We believe this re-forged partnership will open up even more opportunities for our business units and our customers to take advantage of the full benefits of the web,” says Rolv-Erik Spilling (pic), head of Telenor Digital Services. “We have already seen rapid uptake of a co-branded version of the Opera Mini mobile browser in our business units, helping our many basic-phone customers experience the Internet, sometimes for the first time. TELENOR Group and Opera Software have announced a re-commitment and an expansion of their partnership to bring the mobile web to Telenor’s customers.

Today, we join efforts to give more people the opportunity to fully enjoy the web on their mobile phones,” Lars Boilesen concluded. “We are proud of our heritage from Telenor’s research labs. Currently, Opera Mini is the most used mobile browser around the world, with 60 million monthly users. The first version of Opera Mini for Telenor should become available in September. Telenor’s strong global position is a result of their relentless commitment to the customer, in markets as diverse as Sweden, Russia, Bangladesh and Hungary,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera. “Our goal is simple: help Telenor grow its user base and revenues by delivering an unparalleled Internet experience to every local operator in the Telenor network. “We are thrilled to work closely with Opera, a company that spun out of Telenor in the late 1990s, and have grown to become one of Norway’s most successful technology exports,” Morten Karlsen Sørby contined.Īt the same time, the agreement between the two companies is expected to determine them join hands towards providing further innovation in the mobile space, and for expanding the scope of the mobile web. We are confident that this agreement will help us provide Internet to a larger user group across the world,” says Morten Karlsen Sørby, EVP and Head of Corporate Development, Telenor Group. “Telenor has a vision to provide mobile Internet with a great user experience to everyone. Through this agreement, Telenor’s customers in all geographies should benefit from access to a fast, user-friendly and affordable web-experience on their mobile phones.

Under the new agreement, Telenor’s business units are enabled to co-brand, distribute and run the Opera Mini mobile browser on the company's handsets. Moreover, the company announced that the partnership might result in the emergence of a new version of its Opera Mini software solution, one that is adapted for use on the local operator's handset.

Today, Norwegian software company Opera announced the signing of a non–exclusive Global Frame Agreement with the Telenor Group, aimed at the stimulation of the rapid growth of mobile Internet on Telenor’s business units.
